It was an Amiga game, made by Codemasters I think, Zool was an Ant.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

It was also on the master system. I used to have it  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zool Zool was also ported to the Atari ST, Game Boy, Sega Mega Drive, SNES, Master System, Sega Game Gear, Amiga CD32, PC, Acorn Archimedes and Jaguar. A minor detail of the ending animation of the original Amiga version showed Zool knocking a blue hedgehog out of his way: a reference to the game's attempt to be a "Sonic-beater".

I had both Zool ad Zool 2, probably the last platformers I played tbh

I remember playing Zool, on the Amiga though. Didn't like it too much though. Preferred Midnight Resistance platform-shooty game.
