Gah, I've been summoned for Jury Duty. Has anyone here done it ? What can I expect ? I've read some stuff online.. I'm not sure whether to be excited at getting to be present at an interesting case or if it's going to be the most boring thing ever.

Never been myself, had a few family members go though. Can't remember what they did though now.

I did it years ago when i was a young chap, found it enjoyable to put low life f.uckers away, it was a nice break from my job and a lay in everyday (10am start as opposed to my 6.30 usual). Frustrating at times when the barrister's don't ask the questions you want the answers to, and you'll be surprised or maybe not at the lack of intelligence of some of the jurors. Be warned though, there are some unpleasant cases you have to sit on.

Yeah I figured there'd be some bad stuff you'd be witness to in there. Do you just have to sit and listen basically ? Then chat about it with the other jurors elsewhere ? Also I've never been to court or anything so I'm crap with all the legal terms lol

Yeh, sit and listen then at the end of the case the judge will summarise and if he's good he'll give you a strong indication of his thoughts, if he's bad he will just drone on for an hour like one of those bad teachers at school until most of you are like nodding dogs, falling asleep. Then you go to a room and talk about it till you make a decision, this is where some of the boneheads sit there staring into space and don't have a clue, i had to lead the way and put my thoughts across on a couple of cases otherwise you'd be sat there all day. You don't need to know any legal terms. I remember having a robbery case in boro high street, a bottling in a pub in hartlepool by a female(she kept giving me the eye aswell which was f.ucking scary cos she was a monster), then near the end of my two weeks i was put on a major case that lasted another two weeks which was probably the worst sort of case you can get which involved children. I was nervous when i first went but smiling at the end of the four weeks having put evil peeps away.

Cheers doesn't sound too bad as long as you don't get stuck with something boring for weeks on end then. I'm quite looking forward to seeing how it all works in there, but I really really can't stand being sat around for hours waiting and waiting.

If you don't get put on a case in the morning you will be sat in a big room with all the other jurors just dicking around (it would be nice to think they had ps3's nowadays ), then you go for an hours dinner at 1pm, when you get back they pick more jurors for afternoon starting cases and if you aint picked you get sent home. You can have a chat to the person in charge of the jurors who in our case was a pleasant lady sat at a desk near the door of the room, and ask to be kept busy.

If you get sent home do you have to attend another day or is that it ? I'll take my ipod or something to at least have something to do in there then. Cheers for the info Path I have to go on the 28th May so I still have a while yet.

I know this sounds silly but ever since watching 12 angry men, I have wanted to be in a Jury, however I am sure most of it these days is townies shop lifting, not to mention some of the stuff you could see to do with child abuse could leave you scarred for life.

I have done it & it is quite interesting , well mine was it was gang related - two Asian gangs got caught with weapons etc. The interesting this was that some of the guys looked incapable of doing anything too serious yet when they read out the previous records prior to sentencing they where into all kinds of bad ass stuff including big time drug running ( as in H ) , assault with deadly weapons , prositution... This was going back like 20 years ago when the gun culture was non existent.
