Quite like this article over at Kotaku. Talks about peoples 'addiction' to Xbox 360 gamer points. He talks about how a lot of the things you do to get achievement points are more like work than fun.

I know people that are rather obsessed with getting all the achievements and 'who's got the highest gamer score'. While I'm not bothered about my gamer score - I think if I was I'd waste a lot of money on games I didn't really want. Though I probably have wasted a fair bit of time doing achievements - for the sake of getting an achievement. Sometimes this gives extra replay incentive, or an extra thing to complete in the game for that feel of better value for money. How often am I just suckered into spending extra time after completing a game to do stupid achievements.

The article basically talks about a guy loosing his achievements points, and feeling liberated rather than pissed. Can understand why - M$ really out did themselves with this marketing gem.

I have noticed that Valve are jumping on this bandwagon with the orange box, I have played portal sevral times over to get awards.

If you are addicted to them then i can understand been relived if they all get lost, as i would be less inclined to start from scratch if i have 1000's and lost them, then i would be to keep my score up if i did not lose them.

now you can understand why WoW and other MMO's are so popular too It works the same for getting new items in those games, people just want to push it further to get that new weapon are armor or to kill a new boss. It all works the same way imo.
