You'd actually have to speak so people could understand you though.

Indeed they would be illegal if you are playing copyrighted material. You'll find Radio stations have copyright agreements with the record labels which usually they will pay a blanket fee for.

Saying that I can't imagine the average Joe Bloggs pays for the tunes he plays on his internet radio station. So far I haven't seen much on people being taken to court for the copyright infringement. I think it's something the record companies overlook.

They pay perfoormance rights, it's not blanket fees as such.

If you play a Stone Roses track on a radio station, they have to pay a fee to the BPI (British Phonographic Institution) who keep traack of airplay and the money.

The fees vary, so the current #1, the fees might be a few hundred quid for a local station (per play) or a fiver for a hostpital radio station. Where as an album track from 10 years ago, might be a few pence.

FYI, shops and everyone else who plays copyrighted music in public has to pay these fees.

lol you cant host the music on a publicly accessable area [ that is illegal]

but streaming is a black area because theirs soo many people doing it it would be impossable to chase everyone down for it

regards the gameSlave radio, it takes a lot of bandwidth to do it from a dedi server... i should know i setup a radio station for my old fyRe clan back in the good old days, and my 20GB/mo Shell bandwidth quota got maxed in under a week [and that was with less than 10 listners]

Bandwidth wouldn't be an issue for us, we have plenty, but we plan to use it for files.gameslave.co.uk
