Hmm, 1 large disk if you get a Shuttle.

A couple or 80/120's otherwise. (Get a pair just in case you ever fancy running raid)

However, I know it's going o confuse you further but I'd STRONGLY advise you to get a shuttle or other XPC.

They come with mobo/psu pre-installed and are therefore much easier to build, Jim has one, tell him Jim, tell him.

Right, still not ordered. 80/120 then though.

And I think while im a complete nubbin ill stick with a case, maybe in 12-18 months i may get a shuttle when im a bit more confident.

nah order 2 x 80 or 2 x 120

dont order a 80 and a 120, if u want to raid in the future u need 2 hd's same size i think, not 100% sure if this is correct.

but again if raid dosent do that much, dont bother, u can still partition raid drives i believe.

just want to confuse you a bit more felon

make sure u get the right psu, i dropped a big bollock only getting a 350w case with built in psu

need the juice

aye another error, i have 2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Plus NCQ 80GB ST380817AS SATA 8MB Cache

not maxtor

ignore the stupid thick northern lad

my artic ATI cooler came today looks huge, bit scary

I did say get a pair shane, either 80's or 120's.

Don't buy two different disks if you can help it.

Have to say the shuttle isnt something you should worry about tacking. Its certainly as easy and probably easier to install compared to a normal tower case. I would say just choose what style of case you like.

The thing with Raid though Mani is doesnt work as well as it should, for a desktop PC it really has minimal effect. It'll have almost no effect on the load time of games for example. There is bound to be come cases where it could give an advantage but for me I'd rather use the drives seporately so I can put the swap file on a diff driver or whatever.

Well game load times are noticably faster for me, specifically when I used to play BF1942 with it's huge maps, I was always in WAY before anyone else. I'm usually 1st in in cod too.

I agree to get this system up and running id concentrate on what you actually need, get the essentials sorted. Then add to it when you have more cash.

Aye, but it's important to get yourself a decent backbone, ie mobo. I really would go for the DFI Lanparty SLI-DR board, you've got yourself setup for Raid, SLI, Dual Gig Network, 5.1 Sound. Takes the latest AMD CPUs (also worth holding our for a Venice core 3200+ or 3500+ as they apparently clock to 2.8 or 3 gig).

Well as I said he should concentrate on what he needs, spend as much cash as he can on the essentials. I personally wouldnt call a second hd to run raid essential.

aye but in all my years of having a pc, always good to have at least 2 HD's

or at least 1 big one and partition

nowt worse than a HD going down and losing everything

if your going to upgrade, best to upgrade now, so in a years time you can upgrade again without having to buy new mobo etc

get a mobo that will upgrade again, in say a years time

oi felon, i dont camp, told u, its called tactical positioning

Your Mobo is more improtant then worrying about raid, its the backbone of your system and its also the bottle neck. Pick a good board then if your after faster acssess and load times save for a small 10000 HD about £2.00 per gig and have your opperating system installed on this will be far faster then and raid array, and by any larger HD with 8mg buffer for your dloads and shit. I noticed the 1 you were getting had a 2 meg buffer.
Also dont know if your getting new cpu but for future proofing and upgrades if your going AMD get a 939 board the hypertransport nforce 4 are nice.
It all comes down to the money really.

Also shuttles are ok but a lot are noisy, choose carefully.
