Use the ATI tool to increase the memory and core clock speeds, I'd suggest maybe increasing them by 20 at a time then running something like 3DMark to stress test it. I'm not sure whether ATI tool shows you the temperature on your card, if it doesn't u may want to find a tool that does.

Basically keep pushing the card till you start to see sparkling or artificating in 3DMark.

yeah always a problem with overclocking

you needs COOOLING COOLING AND EVEN MORE COOLING.

if everyone had liquid nitrogen cooling we could all OC our machines to the bolocks

recently some dude overclocked a 3.2Ghz p4 to 6.1Ghz and last i heard had it stable in Bios, and Stable in Linux (for some silly reason WinXP wouldent install )

Sure you can with WinXP! You just need to buy the $799 software addon to support the setup *rimshot*

How do you over clock?

Do you need a powerful gfx card?

and..

How much can you overclock before you need to have cooling fitted?

you can overclock almost any gfx card, processor, or memory.. hell you can even overclock a sound card if you realy wanted (whats the point it'd probably **** your sound field)

i found that i could OC my old machine about 10% over the standrd with out any extra cooling... more cooling is needed for better results and sustained periods.

you can use a variarty of ways. Hardware.. you tinker with some resisters and capacitors and increase your performance that way.. or you can use a software program which hacks the firmware and increases the fsb, power, and other stuff... takes a while to figure the best OC setup for any given component and some components can only be over clocked a little without lots of cooling... Corsair memory, AMD processors and ATI cards are fav's for people to OC

toms hardwear has some guides on overclocking.. and tools can be found using google.... as well as other peoples comments and recomendations

This is all way past me tbh, i would look into it more but im afraid of blowing my whole pc up, plus im not too kean on buying a new case just so i can add cooling, so i guess if i do OC i will only OC to a certain extent, unless i come into some kind of fortune and can afford to add like nitrogen liquid cooling, (or just some fans), lol.
