well, as most of you know, when it comes to hardwhere im clueless. And hey... i like it like that, coz i have you guys!

Atm i'm in the process of thinking () of upgrading my PC bit by bit so in the end i can build a new one, now im not looking for some uberxD machine that could plan to take over the world in 3nanoseconds, so i was wondering if you could help me with some information on some mid range graphics cards

Now im looking to spend £130ish but £150 i could deal with, i know u can get cheaper stuff off ebay/computer fayres so any input would be nice!

atm i was looking at a 9600 256mbXT Sapphire card, herethats only about £100 but im thinking i might go a bit more hardcore.

You should be able to get a 9800pro 128mb (make sure it's a full pro not some crippled cut down), 140-150 should be a max price.

e.g. 128Mb Excalibur (HiS) Radeon 9800Pro Platinum (D-Sub, DVI, TV-out) £150.11

Youre next option is one of the latest gen cards to come out on AGP (the pci-e ones are already out, this would be an nVidia 6600GT or an Ati X700Pro, both are about 140-150 quid. This would be my prefered option, tho I'd want bencharmark figures 1st.

Seems doom3 engine runs much better on the 6600GT, with cod2 most likely to run on the d3 engine, this would look like the better choice.

It would be a great choice if you could get a new cpu/mobo at same time, as you could go pci-e and later add another 6600gt in sli mode for monster gfx performance.

I built a whole new PC for £500, got it all from ebuyer.

AMD athlon XP barton 2800+
1gb corsair 400mhz RAM
200gb diamondmax plus 9 HD
Sapphire ATI radeon 9600 128mb
Shitty £15 ebuyer own PSU 550w
MSI motherboard
Antec full tower case

The 9600 i got was only £90 and it runs everything nicely, doom 3 high quality, etc.

Only wanted a new HD, but ended up finding out my GPU fan wasn't working, so needed a new GFX card, then i needed a bigger cooler case for the hot HD, then blew my mobo up while transferring it to the new case, lol, then accidently broke the CPU fan by sticking my finger in the fan, lol. Ended up buying new everything.

HardOCP reviewed the 6600GT today Ben

The GeForce 6600GT AGP and PCI-Express video cards are the fastest midrange cards you can buy. They offer all the latest features such as Shader Model 3.0 and OpenEXR support with their FP16 frame buffer, and they accelerate the latest games faster than the high-end video cards of the previous generations. Now that there is an AGP version of the GeForce 6600GT, more people can upgrade their video card without breaking the bank and while sticking with the gaming-dominant Athlon series processor. The GeForce 6600GT AGP sells for between a suggested $199-$249 and is available today, which shows that the 6600GT AGP is very far from being a paper launched product
