I've set up a couple of 3 wireless networks now using Netgear routers. They seem reliable and easy to set up.
I have heard that wireless isn't any good for gaming, though I've not tried on any of the ones i've set up.

Ive got a mixture of cabled/wireless network throughout the house.

Using 3com access point with netgear and asus (Built in mb card) and 3com, wireless cards.

As far as gaming goes, as long as you aint losing your signal at any point wireless should only add a couple of ms onto your ping. Obviously though if you are losing signal constantly I agree it would be pretty pointless.

A number of people see to have problems with the signal dropping, and most of the time it seems driver related. My old 3com b/10mbit Access Point just about manages to cover my house, which is 3 storeys, with a mixture of brick supporting walls, and lath and plaster. Unless youve got super thick walls i expect the more modern 54/g should more than do the job.

I wouldn't touch wireless for security reasons, unless you know what youre doing.

Then if there are also concerns over performance for gaming, would sorta rule it out completely.

Though I agree with Scrappy, netgear kit is solid and good value.

However, check these out.

This looks like your best bet no the scan site.

And this one doesn't include a modem (you already ahve one?)

Also explain a bit more on security issues?

And Mork do I need different type of NIC cards for wireless ?

Soz to be a pain.

You would need either a PCI card or USB adaptor (I aint a great fan of USB so I go for PCI)

Personally I would only go for wireless, if you absolutly cannot run cat5 to each of your rooms.

Umm no, you only need 1 modem. I tink given the fact that you asked that question, I'd go for the all in one solution. Will save you time and eventually money.

Security Issues, basically unless your network has decent security, people can log in from anywhere within wireles range of your base station and use your bandwidth.

I would avoid wireless until you are 100% clued up on what you are doing.

Although if you buy all netgear kit, they have a 24 hour help line and can talk you through everything.

Just plu the router into your phone line (ADSL), and plug network connections form your PC's into the router and see what happens. I bet there is minimal configuration to do, if any.

Have you put in your adsl login details into the router? The software you can access thro 192.168.168.1 usually.

Wireless routers.

Felon, when you reff'd the match i was in last season for jolt, you may have noticed every few seconds i lagged out and paused. Thats wireless for you!

I have tired belkin and netgear. They are fantastic for standard usage, but do some nifty re-negotiation every few seconds causing games to lag..... No way around it i am told apart from to reduce the link to maybe 2 mb............. I can't so im not sure if that works.

When i play now, i run a 10 meter cable to my pc.... Works a treat
