Anyone keeping up to date on latest CPU / Mobo's and prices ?

My mate has Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 RAM and is getting a BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ and wants the cpu and motherboard, I've not kept up to date with any of that stuff in the last year or so. Any recommendations ?
