Recently my DVD-r/ Cd-r has stopped working. It has power but it doesn't work and when i put a disk in the drive i can hear it spin and see the lights flash but nothing comes up on the screen. The drive appears to be showing on Device manager but is not showing on My Computer. I have Windows Vista if that might help.

So yea, i was wondering if you guys know of any solutions on how to fix this problem, as i am unable to install any program/game ect..

just buy a new one. You can get them for like £6 from Aria.co.uk or other places. More than likely it's just died.

Vista owns ! nothing wrong at all with it. Did you upgrade from Xp to Vista or just have Vista installed ? The only bug with a DVD drive in Vista that I know of is if you do the upgrade instead of a full install. As it's showing up in My Computer etc it's obvious it's working but just the laser probably died. That's my guess anyway

Just to make sure... it doesn't have a yellow exclamation mark next to it in device manager does it ? Also did you install any dvd software or something such as poweriso ?

well go to device manager and right click on it and uninstall it in there and reboot.. see if windows picks it up again. If you don't have any iso files to run, like *ahem* games that you didn't aquire in a correct manner, then you won't need poweriso so you can remove that. Sometimes that messed mine up too. See if that works.
