http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6594907.stmHeard quite a bit about this recently, can 250K ps3's really do as much as about 50 million PC's? surely the PS3's contribution to the project is minimal in comparison but I guess this is a case of excellent viral marketing, Joe public now thinks that the PS3 is a super computer through a few well chosen words in a press release.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

From what I understand, the Cell rocks at this type of data analysis, but no were near a good GPU.

I'd bet a quad core Xeon pwns a cell

normal cpu's generall suck at this kind of data stuff, thats why intel/amd are moving to this stream technology where by utilising GPU's to calculate data, i guess the cell & the RSX chip do this well.

opps i was wrong, the gpu is better on a core by core basis but as the cell has like 1000000000 i guess the ps3 will cure cancer. linkky

I have to say Mani , the stats look good for the PS3 & that's with a device which is in its infancy . Give it another 12 months & the aggregated computational power of the PS3 is going to make a major contribution to the cure to cancer.
