The recent loss of my back-up PC has meant that the pass down strategy which has been my modus operandi for some time is now no longer viable . My next PC upgrade is going to be pretty major seeing as the only items I have left which can be reused are the PSU , case , optical & HD's , so with the turmoil in the PC space at the moment I thought "blow it its time to get a console while I decide what to do next" . My main driver is to offer some social gaming when friends come round & so after some deliberation I settled for the PS3 ... The things which attracted me towards the PS3 where the Linux/Cell possibilities & also that the device has native support for keyboard & mouse . I realise that the you guys have 360's & Wii's & so this excludes me from playing online with some of you but hey that's life & to be honest the console is going to be used predominantly with my kids & to entertain more casual gamers when they come visit. My serious online gaming is going to be done on my PC. So guys stay posted & I will write up a blog on how the device stacks up in the eyes of a hard core PC Zealot.

Surely if you wanted casual gaming for casual players when they visit then the Wii would have been the perfect choice as it doesn't require any knowledge of what buttons to press - only movements in most cases. But hey, your choice

I very nearly went with the Wii mate but I waned more of a media device & big badass graphics for the racing games I like to play.

Gotta get Singstar, always good for a laugh, and Buzz (if it works on ps3 yet)
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Well I thought the uk ps3 didnt have the ps2 backwards compatibility now ? So surely any games we recomend you to buy will be pointless ?

It doesn't have hardware backwards compatibility, they took that chip out, but lots of games still work with software emulation.

It's only really the games that no one played that don't work. There is the odd good game that isn't FULLY compatible but the selection is still huge. If you're looking for PS2 games to play, I can recommend you a lot later, but not right now BTW, remember the PS3 is USB, so the old PS2 controllers will not work. So if you were thinking of playing games such as Guitar Hero on it... the guitar controller WILL NOT BE COMPATIBLE.

Ralin ! I thought that no one else had a PS3 !!! What made you go for one ? The anti Sony feelings are so high you feel a little antisocial if you go for a PlayStation numero tre. I went for this bundle & a second controller . Genji looks little iffy but MotorStorm & Resistance of Man look the bollocks. Ridge Racer 7 will be my next title ... the drifting ... the online racing ... cool.

Sony have been great news for months, I'm a little sorry the machine is now actually out as the crazy news stories have dried right up.
