Ok - I've just bought a new PSU and stuff to see if it fixed the artifacting in my graphics card ( EVGA 7900 GT oc) but it hasn't. I've been reading up about artifacting on this card and it seems it's happening a hell of a lot for other people too - the only one that doesn't seem to be getting the problems is the KO version which apparantly has a better heatsink and stuff.
So .. I'm looking for a new card - PCI-e - either Nvidia or ATI - although at this point i'm leaning towards ATI more as i've never had problems with them in the past.
I don't need a top of the range card - just to be able to run WoW at 1680x1050 and a few other games such as BF2 etc. I know I could just buy a new heatsink for the graphics card and all that but I really can't be bothered with buying anyhting else in the "hope" of fixing it when I can just get a decent card that works well.
I don't have a hugely powerful PSU either - 430w so that limits it as well.
Any ideas ?

how does it work with graphics cards that require like 30a on the 12v line ? I can't really find any like that - or is it a combined total of all the 12v lines ? So confused

I'm confused, you just bought a new PSU, but it's only 430Watt? Why would you do such a thing?

cause it's cheap and I'm already running a 430w for just my motherboard and graphics card - I use the other one for drives etc. I cba spending hundreds anymore.

Monster look at this review 160+ fps in BF2 @ 16x10 with all the eye candy turned up. Personally I am going to wait till spring & get the 8900GTS which should give 8800GXT performance Linqu

I am not all that impressed with the 8800GTX, money over performance its a bad buy in my eyes.

I don't know where they got that from, but 2142 2xAA 1600x1200 full quality (bar dynamics) I only get 40-50fps . maybe my cpu is the bottleneck now

What the hell sort of pc are you running ? Cos my sli 7800gx could do that in bf2 piece of piss and my 8800gtx shits all over the 7800gtx sli. Is the rest of your rig not up to spec ? Do you have older drivers installed as the 8800gtx has its own drivers not unified ones ? Does it have enough power ?, is BOTH the power cables plugged into the 8800gtx ? Have you reinstalled windows when you done it ? How is your install of windows, do you have winfdows on a seperate partition or is everything on the c: How slow or fast are your hard drives ? How fragmented is the drive ? What do you have running in the background What anti virus are you running ? How much ram do you have ? Are you sure its a 8800gtx you have ? What spec cpu do you have ? And are you 100% sure the older drivers are tottaly removed for the g card ? Is you psu powerful enough to give it all the power it needs ? I am betting the rest of your rig is a 486 with a 128megs of ram !

2142 need more graphical power than bf2 but heres your answers
A Silver one No ideas I think its good No fresh install with new mobo/gcard Yes, 620W over 3xRails Yes Everything on C:/ 7200rpm sata1 not very not much the windows install was only 3 weeks ago. the evil NIS 2gb cas2 yes its a bfg one 4200X2 (939) I would be amazed if they are still on. says Sli ready?
I'm not saying the 8800 is bad its just not £400 good. and my first game was rainbow six so I am still getting over having to play it on medium settings.

Well for a start as I said on irc many times the pc version of rainbow six is horribly coded and runs like shit. Why the hell have you got everything installed onto your c: that will slow things down no end, everything is trying to access the same partition at the same time, not to mention how much it frags up the c: Something must be up with your system re0 because every review I have seen and my 8800gtx performance is far better than that.

Oh and it doesnt take much to frag up your c: just the install of windows and all its updates will do it, not to mention drivers and installing games and all that. Go defrag it right now m8. Altho as you have everything on c: that could take a while.

Interesting theory re C drive Stan - I keep my essential progs on C & all the storage on other drives but I still keep the games on the same partition . I use Executive Software Diskeeper to keep my drive frag free & it is totally frag free . Now Reo m8 the 4200 are going to slow you down on single thread apps , it may be time to turn up the Mhz on the sucker to get more out of your card . My A64 3200+ has been sitting at 2.66 Ghz from the day I bought it to date ( 14 Months ) with no issues at all , as a matter of fact I may turn up the gas when my new PSU ( coolermaster igreen 600W ) as my Hyper Power 420W is a good device but me thinks its at its limits with 2 optical , 4 HDD , 5 fans , 4 DIMMS , clocked CPU , clocked 6800GT and Audigy 2... oh must not forget the neon strip light . Even if you got the CPU up to 2.4 Ghz thats a decent rate of knots

Aye as I said reo sadly a few of the games like vegas you was thinking was the graphics cards fault. Is just down to piss poor optimising and it doesnt matter how fast your rig is, they run like shit.
