I saw a review for the E6300 Core Dueo & it matched or even beat the X2 4800 ! The E6300 is clocked at 1.83Ghz & cost £153 list for FFS ! I just hope that the cost of the X2's drops to the point where I can snap one up for a decent price . I am not sure that there is any real benefit from a gaming perspective so if I do it it will be to simply allow me to multi task better.

yes and no,

for BF I still get on the same speed.

but i was doing 3D animation @ college, so the rendering of 33 secs of film in CINEMA 4D would of taken 30+h but with dual core it was knocked down to 18h44m, so that was a good improvment.

also video encoding, with single pass, can now be done in real time .

the good thing is that you can assign prossesses to diffrent cores, so you could give BF its own core (except for windows stuff) and put vent, irc ect on the other.
