my bugggered processor

my processor is a crappy AMD sempron 2800 /2ghz. my computer thinks that it is a athlon, and only runs at 1.2 ghz. i took mit into a computer shop about 2 weeks ago and had it sorted out, he sed a chip or somthin had reset itself and was runnig in a safe mode. How can i fix teh problem, myself so i dont hav to keep spendin money to get it fixed?? and is it esay to fix??

Have you just tried just removing the power cord from the back for say 30 seconds? Might help make it redetect it. Could be worth resetting the bios too, to force it to redetect but unless you are happy messing with the bios settings I wouldnt recommend it.

id say, reset the bios to default [i.e. unplug the pc remove the little watch battery and put it back in]

then boot up and enter bios to check its detected as new


also you might wanna look at your motherboard manual to see if their are any jumper settings you should have for the cpu fsb

if you cant find the manual just let us know the mobo model and manufaturer

rite, i went into the bios thingy settings, and there was a option to called auto configuration with optiomal settings, and this was for best performance of the computer. do u think it would work if i tryed that option?? oh and if i was to take this battery out would i hav to put all the settings in or just the settings for me processor?

oh and also yesterday wen tis buggered up so did other things, like now i cannot got onto msn mseenger, or windows messenger. wen i boot up the computer it now searches for boot records from a cd or a floppy, and the time buggered up yesterday aswel, it set it self to sum time in 2004

You need to set your boot device as your hard drive with windows on it. Or take out and CD's/Floppy's from the drive

Bios's vary in layout, if you cant figure it out you'd be better off asking someone local for help as you dont want to change the wrong thing in the bios.
