did you change your DVD/RW? , reinstall + patch XP (bf2 seems to require SP2)

did you make sure you dont have Deamontools running in the background

I'd take the 512mb dimm out and leave it out. I'd be so bold as to say that is slowing your pc down no end.

yep thats 512 is point less you'll never use 2gb before you need to upgrad again , i can run a full v-scan and still play bf2 with my 2gb.

what gf card you got? and do you have directX 9c on?

also when bf2 opening menu open you should have an option to open EAsy info, check this to see if you have all green ticks,
then try the BF2:MC video to make 100% sure its not a codec error from the opening intro (dount it is but...)

Maybe due to the memory not running in dual-ddr mode as it wasnt paired up properly. Also the more memory you have the more harddisk overhead there is but I wouldnt expect either of those to make a massive difference, though probably noticable.

any ideas on what this could be i thought i could be the cpu over heating?

Quite possibly, get some software installed to monitor the temps to know for sure.

What kind of software would that be? I wouldnt mind monitoring the temps on my PC, as ive had some heat problems recently.

If you have a mobo with nvidia chipset, there's a program called nTune.

Most motherboards will supply some monitoring software, failing that SpeedFan and Motherboard Monitor are okay. As Scrappy says, nTune is the best if you have a nvidia chipset.

ati only implemented those sensors afer the 9800 xt d3cypher

also when i was running my 9800 pro with stock fan and before i had this lovely case with intake filters my fans and heatsnks used to get fully clogged up with dirt.it ran fine on desktop and i could play games for about 10-15 mins then it would overheat and my pc would restart

it may be worthwhile just cleaning the gpu heatsink and fan
