Well as some of you know i nocked a cup of coffee over my tft the other day, thus i need to get a new one. There are 2 ones i am thinking of DELL Ultrasharp 2001FP 20.1" which has a responce time of 16ms but a res of 1600 by 1200 [would be ideal for my pc] Or the Viewsonic VX924 19" LCD Monitor which has a g2g responce time of 3ms but the res is only 1280 by 1024. I am having trouble picking tbh, i would love a high 1600 by 1200 res and yet the 16ms responce time aint excatly state of the art. Choices choices choices

The DELL Ultrasharp 2001FP 20.1" will suck for gaming. 16ms is crap.
Grant has the 2005FPW which is an updated 2001FPW, same res, better contrast ration, lower reponse time (12ms if you get the right variant)
I you want a 1600x1200 one you'll be very lucky to find one with a good refresh rate.
If you go for the low refresh rate ones, from all I've read the 8ms ones are just as just as 4ms and are cheaper, they also have better colour reporduction. That Viewsonic one has an 8ms little brother which is sposed to be very nice.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

grants one aint the same as the one i mentioned as the one i mentioned aint widescreen and is 1600 by 1200 not 1600 by 1050 or what ever grants is. I agree 16ms will probs suck for gaming, but wouldnt 1600 by 1200 be nice ! Idealy i would like to demo some but i cant see that happining. I am a gamer though so i think you are right that 16ms would just end up pissing me off.

16ms is awful for gaming, you get blurred lines and it looks like a ghost is walking behind the guy in FPS games, it made me feel sick.
I've only encountered one game that won't run in 1680x1050 (my TFT's res) at the moment and that's battlefield 2, but I just run it with borders at a lower res and it's fine. They should be fixing it in the patch I read.. but we'll have to see.
Even old games as far back as Startopia worked at 1680x1050.. and COD2 supports it at the 16:9 ratio.
i've never noticed any ghosting with this 12 ms TFT or my other old 2 at the same response time.

My 19" is about 12ms and it's fine but I've never seen any thing lower then 12 with 1680x1050. The NEC 19" 1970GX is a real nice TFT, was after one myself a wil back

Stan I got the ViewSonic VX924 from LOW for £299 mate & it is the dogs nuts , I made a compromise for the image quality on my Samsung & mate I could have kicked myself for buying it , £500 & within a month it was on my back up PC & I was on theCRT again but the VX924 just out performs my CRT in every respect .

aye i got my amd rig back from ocuk, it looks as if it was the external audigy 4 box causing it to constantly crash, i havent plugged it in since i got it back and it has crashed once, and i havent turned it off in like 4 days. Sataday or sunday i will plug the audigy 4 box back in and see if it makes it crash, if it does i will get it swapped out by ocuk.

Spitfire which Samsung do you have? I was looking at getting either the Samsung SyncMaster 930BF or the View Sonic VX924.The view sonic has a lower response time (3ms compared to Samsungs 4ms {G2G}) but the Samsung has a higher Contrast Ratio at 700:1 ( 550:1 for the View sonic) so they both have there good points. Any thoughts on which is the best buy? (I think there's only £50 in the price)

I doubt you'll tell teh diff between 3 and 4ms, also peopel measure response time differently. 3ms might be 9ms on Samsung's scale or vice versa.

They both say gray to gray, so isent that the same? ms is time based and not some thing that samsung/veiwsonic can change?? how do they get around that?

They all apparently measure it differently, just be careful and read reviews from trusted sites.

My Samsung ReOsless is the Syncmaster191T & its picture quality is exellent ( responce time sucks though I can paly FPS games no problems on it FEAR etc. ) I went ViewSonic because it just kept getting good reviews & it came with a DVI cable which the Samsung does not (add £20 ) . I can personaly vouch for the ViewSonic m8 you will not regret it :-)
