Recently started playing BF2 again, re-installed it the other week cos i was having some problems. But i've still got this one problem where if a large explosion goes off nearby like a grenade, air-strike, etc. my BF2 stalls, sound loops and i'm therefore an easy target for someone to kill. It also happens when i die, here's a screenie... ClickyAs you can see all the icons and text are mashed up. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this problem? Cheers.

that's a driver issue, maybe gfx, possibly sound.

I'll update my graphics drivers first then. Sound card is a £5 jobby Creative AudioPCI (ES1370), SB PCI 64/128 (WDM). Only bought it for the game port. Might take that card out and go back to using my old on-board sound.

Didn't bother updating my graphics drivers in the end. Got it sorted by installing some decent sound card drivers. Now if only i was good at BF2.

The problem's back again! I've installed new video drivers but to no success. About ready to give up with BF2.

This is a common BF2 bug which EA has never addressed.
Some things to try:
- Drivers fully updated - What version of DirectX are you running? Make sure it's 9c - Make sure fast write is 'off' on your gfx card - What virus/spyware guard do you use? Might be causing issues. - Most importantly: it's bloody hot atm, is your PC getting enough cool air? Overheating would produce crashes like that.
If all else fails, open up the PC, clean out all the dust and reset all your components. Be surprised how often this fixes things.

AMD athlon XP 2800+ (2.1GHz) 768MB corsair RAM 128MB sapphire ATI radeon 9600 g-card 200GB diamondmax plus 9 HD Creative AudioPCI (ES1370), SB PCI 64/128 (WDM) sound card
Running BF2 at: 800x600 85Hz medium settings AA off draw distance 100%
My drivers are fully updated, video and sound. Although they don't do drivers for my shite £5 sound card anymore. I'm using some creative ones windows update found. Thought i had the problem fixed the other day when i updated with these new sound drivers but the problem started again this morning.
Running directx 9c.
Using norton 2005 internet security. Never had a problem with it before so i can't see it being that. Although my subscription runs out in 10 days so i'll be un-installing it soon.
My PC is running about 10C hotter in this weather. CPU @ 55-60C, mobo @ around 40C. I've got a antec full tower case with two fans at the front, two at the back, one on the window side but i've got a small room so it does get hot. I gave my PC a full on dust last week, first time in ages, dusted the CPU heatsink and all sorts.
What do you mean by resetting all your components?

re-seating, as in take it out, blow the dust off, put it back in. (For cards)
Try turning norton off while you play bf2.

Yeah i always make sure the old drivers are un-installed before i install new ones.
I bought that sound card for the game port on the back so i can use a joystick in BF2 and i have had BF2 working fine before with this sound card. But it's worth a go. I'll take the card out and try on-board, see how that works.
Do you have sound set on software or hardware in the BF2 audio settings?

Took the shitty sound card out and am now running on on-board sound with the latest c-media drivers and it's seemed to have sorted the problem for now.
Cheers lads.
