Star Trek Online Review
Star Trek Online ReviewStar Trek itself needs no introduction. It's the TV series that popularized science fiction in the 1960's by beaming down weekly tales of bold spacemen navigating a hazy unknown; exploring exotic planets and teaching aliens how to love. It commands a vast and powerful fan base - perfect fodder for the MMO treatment then, as franchise lobbyists are more likely to hang around than less fanatical players.

I tried the beta of this and thought it was the most boring and basic mmmorpg I have ever played. Very disappointed and the ship combat was a let down as well.

I am sure the hardcore trekkies will love it, but they didn't do enough to keep me playing, they could have had such a classic with great storylines.

You're lucky you got given what seems to be a different Star Trek MMO to me. The animations were shocking, half the story is voice acted and half not - like they gave up halfway through. If you want space combat you should play Eve Online, that has proper epic battles with huge ships. Star Trek is point and click at best. This MMO will be dead in 6 months like every other one.

It feels like one of those free to play mmorpgs that came out five years ago.

I could go on and on about its faults, but the easiest way is to describe whats good about it and the only thing I can think of is that its Star Trek.

If you take a look at wow, the characters are well drawn, each level looks and feels different, its just had a lot of work and love put into it. STO just feels cheap and without soul or heart.

Not since the Stalker review have I disagreed with a review so much.

Unlucky mate, you got a bad game for your first review.

Blame Midnight for not finishing it first, I would !

Just coz you two think it's a bad game, doesn't mean everyone does.

All the reviews I've read seem to say that it's just a bit easy and simple, but ok in general.

All the reviews I read said its very basic and gave it about 5 out of 10.

As I said I am sure hardcore trekkies will love it, but it didnt do anything new or intresting to get me to play it.

Well a good thing about the reviews here is that most of them aren't influenced by other reviews online. I'd rather have more than one person's opinion, that way I can form my own.

Sorry if any of that came across as harsh, I was just bitterly disappointed in this game.

Hey guys,

Sorry to those who didn't like my review but the simple truth is that I enjoyed it. You don't have to agree with that.

There is no way that anyone can fairly judge the quality of an MMO until some time into its launch and so it can take months of continuous playing before someone gets a true idea of what they have on their hands. This means that nobody - myself included - is in a position to accurately reflect on the game at this stage in its life.

What I opted to do was review the launch of the title and it's mechanics at the beginning of the game's life - all of which I took, mostly, positive things from.

I reviewed what the game was and what it did - not what it wasn't. If you were disappointed with the game then perhaps you were expecting something different?

I think too many MMORPGs are compared to WoW these days. I know you're gonna say they should be as WoW is an MMORPG also, but this is Blizzard we're talking about. They near enough have an unlimited budget and can do what the hell they like. It's kinda sad that other MMORPGs get judged so quickly because of them. "It's not WoW" is usually the feedback you get from MMORPGs these days.

Again, I have one friend that joined the Star-Trek beta but didn't like it very much. He played it more and it seemed to grow on him and he started to like it a lot. Like Modo says, it's hard to judge a game so quickly when it's still a baby.

All that being said, I'm not a fan of MMORPGs at all so I could be speaking from my rear.
