Heat of Battle
Heat of Battle v0.31 (Call of Duty Modification) Mini Review

Servers

Server support for the UK is slowly growing, gameSlave currently have their own server, which may or may not continue depending on the support given to it over the next few weeks. My experience of servers in general is good and bad, depending who the admin in on at the time. Some admin's encourage the players to capture the points, other are happy to see a mass of TDM, leaving the cap points untouched. Again this is not a criticism of the game, more of the people who play it.

The most enjoyable games in HoB have been on servers with 16 players or less. Team work seems to be more noticeable with smaller teams. Once your getting closer to 20 players and beyond most map as I've mentioned before end up being more TDM than HoB.

Hopefully server support will grow giving players options as to what size a game they want to be involved in.

Final Thoughts

As I've mentioned the current version of HoB has a few annoying problems, some will be fixed with the next server patch, everything considered I think this mod is very good, and certainly worth downloading and giving it a go.

With the right players on the server its probably one of the best mods out there for team based play, if you don't get the right players however, your probably going to find it frustrating and wonder why you bothered playing it. The future looks bright for HoB at least in the short term, an official Capture and Hold game type is promised in the upcoming CoD expansion, whether this will replace HoB entirely only time will tell, but that is certainly motivation for the HoB development team to get things sorted asap.

If you do decide you want to give HoB a go, download mirrors are available on the official Heat of Battle site.
